BeeOne is an application that caters to the needs of novice and expert beekeepers in the DMV area. The application allows members of a hive to track the status of their physical hive while also participating in the virtual community to find hives seeking new members, answer questions in a forum, and learn more about beekeeping from other expert beekeepers.
Hypothesis
We believe that local beekeepers do not have an effective way to communicate or manage bee hives in the DMV area.
Personas
We developed personas that reflected members of the community that have varying experience and needs from an app directed toward beekeeping. We wanted to not only take into consideration the needs of an every day beekeeper, but people who are trying to join the community, as well as experts who have a wealth of knowledge to distribute amongst community members.
Flow Chart
Our flowchart was one of the parts of our process that went through the most iterations. We had become focused on this idea of different levels of users and catering an experience to fit their needs instead of a generalized experience that is more difficult to navigate through for the user.
Usability Testing
We gathered student volunteers who were unfamiliar with the premise of our app to assign them tasks to complete. We were able to track their journey through our prototype and find where there were disconnects between our design and their needs.
Wire-Framing
These are a selection of important screens where many changes ended up being made after user testing. Finished designs can be seen below.
Design
A selection of screens after many design iterations from our original wireframes. Changes were made based on feedback received during usability testing.
